Mindmapping tools like Kidspiration© and Inspiration© are software tools that help learners organize thoughts and concept so they can think and learn in a constructivist manner. They are great tools for visual learners as they allow learners to connect concepts quickly and simply with a few clicks of a button. Students can also view the visual maps they create in outline format. The software programs supports the concept of mind-mapping, a learning strategy that has been shown to enhance student learning.

The process of mapping involves writing down a central idea and thinking up new and related ideas which radiate out from the center. Mind mapping (also referred to as concept mapping or graphic organizing) promotes nonlinear thinking and emphasizes creative thought. Mind maps also help students contrast or connect various concepts. To learn more about mind mapping use the link at the top of the page.

This site has been created to give teachers ideas and strategies for implementing mind mapping strategies in the classroom. Several generous and creative educators have posted the resources and projects they have developed using Kidspiration© and Inspiration©. Please be aware that in some instances (especially in the template section) you will need copies of the software loaded on your computer to take full advantage of these resources. Free 30-day evaluation versions of the software can be downloaded at the Inspiration Software, Inc. web site.
